For the second time, Ainhoa Azurmendi gave a keynote speech at the National Conference on Women and Sport, this time in Bilbao in the month of February 2019. In her address, the speaker looked at the evolution of international policies on equality in sport and stressed the need to learn from the experiences of other countries, as well as the importance of planning when designing sports policies toguarantee the incorporation of gender streamlining.

The main challenges addressed by Azurmendi focus on the urgent need to develop an appropriate legal framework; to co-educate and teach women about body empowerment; to design policies from a cross-cutting point of view; to guarantee the presence of women in decision-making positions; to proceed with research in sexual harassment and abuse; and to continue turning the spotlight on women who are references in the field.

Finally, she emphasised the increasingly more commonvindications of women athletes as a key aspect in achieving equality between men and women in the field.
